Introduction
the Lizard King
Cold, cool mist of wet pollution
Feeds the dirt of Pere La Chaise
Where in its core
Molds the Lizard King
Lying,sleeping,smiling,lifeless form
Veins which housed worldly chemicals
Now cold,hard,still
Stray Felines, moss covered stones
Bow and praise the one below
This restless, disturbed mind
Here, but yet for a season
Clinched by the reaper
Respecter of no one
Demonic eyes, now closed in a skull
Hand folded, talentless hands
Listen close, oh, my grieving friend
Birds singing, wind blowing, leaves falling
Lizard King is at hand
Crying, screaming, laughing,
In the presence of eternity.
Let us explore our possibilities
Travel the caverns of our mind
Close your eyes and drift away
We'll go back Forty years in time
To a day and time much younger
Though some things stay the same
Like the music and the poetry
Written by a man named James
In a time that was unsettled
Tranquility out of reach
The Doors

Year 1
This genius helped to birth a group
One day on Venice Beach
As the words came forth
There in the sand, beneath the summer sun
Poetry with such depth and meaning
All knew Jim was the one
The words that Jim had written
Reached the minds of that generation
For you see, Jim possessed an art
Leaving his audience in fascination
Year 2
Started there that day
Under a warm blue sky
A group called the Doors
Enjoyed by you and I
Florida born and American raised
An American poet was he
His concerts turned into ceremonies
Performed by Jim and the magical three
Yellow mushrooms, purple rainbows, silver stars above
After all these years, he's still the one we love
Year 3
The smell of leather fills the air,"Is everybody in?"
Perhaps he was more to you, perhaps he was a friend
Can you picture his young lion image
Or maybe his bearded look
Regardless of how you see him
One song is all it took
To listen to the wild child
Scream out his words and sigh
After all this time,
It's so hard to tell him goodbye
Year 4
The seasons round here
Are somewhat the same
With the spring and summer
Hot with the rain
The fall being cooler
Winters snow on the ground
No matter when it is
A devoted fan can be found
Some search the grounds looking
For the one who found world fame

Year 5
At last his stone is spotted
They see his familiar name
Whether you live here in Paris
Or a tourist from another land
Greet someone while your here
With a hug or shake their hand
Cats make their home here
And roam its structured ground
Around the spirit of Jim Morrison
Whose talent in life, once did abound
Year 6
A poetic genius
Well ahead of his time
If Jim were still here
Such knowledge we'd all find
You could give him a subject
Just to see what he'd say
He would think for awhile, and answer
He lived so fast and died so young
Pressing a hundred years into twenty seven, performing, and having fun
Year 7
Into this sanctuary we all come together
To an old, so ancient land
Offering up our prayers, paying tribute
to the one and only Doors Frontman
His presence here, it fills the air
His songs echo the night
The cobblestones lead the way
to a peaceful feeling so right
As the sun sets in the Parisian sky
A tear falls from a Doors fan's eye
Year 8
I watch a shooting star a million miles away
If Jim stood here right now, we all would here him say
Beautiful people, from all around
Let peace and love today surround
Grab your friend, and love him
Just like the days of old
Keep your feelings for others alive
Never, ever let them grow cold
Keep your hopes up, don't let them waste away
Turn your back to the storms, embrace a sunny day
Year 9
In the city of the dead
Where the moon is at its best
Does his spirit still walk down
Each and every sacred lane?
While everyone can hear
All his laughter and his pain
As the clock strikes twelve, I wonder
Does Jim sit on top of his own gravestone?

Year 10
Is Chopin and Oscar Wilde there with him?
Visiting with him there at home
The trees here are peaceful
Resting souls once full of life
Existing on this blue and green
Some filled with pain and strife
Each of them making their mark
Now their names are etched in stone
The time has come for each of them
To call this land their home
Year 11
The history here, the stories told
Will evermore prevail
The years of old, and those to come
Pure joy for all to tell
The people here today
They light a candle, and meditate
Spend time with this cool dude
As only a small child
An Indian spirit leaped into him
Year 12
From that moment on the highway
He became a brand new Jim
His eggshell mind would develop
Into one of a full grown man
Maturing into a conversation
With Ray in the California sand
The poetic voice soft at times
With an unmistakable pitch
Words spoken so calmly,
Or with rage, so full and rich
Year 13
These fancy resting places are holding grounds
Looking at bigger and better things
For the ones who now sleep here
Whether they compose, write, or sing
Though their time on earth is over
Now so limitless and free
There is still so much to conquer
So many things to be
I stand here and gaze
At your flowers, and your stone
Year 14
Feeling the comforting wave
Knowing I am not alone
As you ride upon a cloud
In the buttermilk skies
Can you see this blessed land
And surely realize
Fans still come from everywhere
Right here with you, good times are shared
With all the attractions here, Jim comes in number three
Beautiful art and landscape, for all of us to see

Year 15
Europe is such splendor
The beauty here in France
Museums, Eiffel Tower, and all the art
Its all here at a glance
To view the Mona Lisa
and the mystery in her smile
to walk the streets in Paris
so much to see, in just a mile
there are many singers today
that try and fill Jim's shoes
Year 16
At their moment of realization
All they do is lose
You can't wear the sunglasses
Dance on fire in leather pants
Or shake a shiny tambourine
You're not Jim, no chance
The music is only hypnotic
Performed by the original four
As they cast their magic on each stage
Their popularity began to soar
Year 17
As night divides the day
A million sunsets you've seen
Your poetry even today
Is still sharp and keen
Now that your spirit
Is far beyond the blue
Do you still write the words down
As they come to you?
Or maybe sing the songs
You sang in '71
Year 18
The final album, L.A. Woman
Alas! Your work was done
No one could keep you here
If so, we all would have tried
When we heard the news in disbelief
In shock, we all just cried
Tye-dye shirts, and faded jeans
A moonlight drive along the beach
Your memory spanning four decades now
But your voice still within our reach
Year 19
When the Music's Over, or Light My Fire
Forty years later, we couldn't get much higher.
I can still hear the music
Rustling thru the wind
Keyboards, guitar, and drums
Oh, I wish they'd play again
Eerie sounds from the band
Would fill the hot, black night
When the lyricist would appear
The experience was out of sight

Year 20
In his Mexican tuxedo shirt of white
Leather pants as black as coal
He'd show the audience, right then and there
How he turned songs into gold
Not only today, but all year long
We honor your memory, and remember a song
Remembering not only your death
But celebrating your life
Thinking of your accomplishments
Or your days of strife
Year21
Each day is just a journey
Full of roadmaps we can take
Our walk can be an opportunity
Or a mistake that we can make
We're all dealt a hand in life
When we're born into this world
Who knows what will come of it
As it all begins to unfurl
Some enjoy the fruits of growing old
Blessed with all they need
Year 22
While others leave here early
But leave their mark indeed
The yellow moon shines in the night
A timid owl stares at me
As heavy fog lays high above the ground
And thick among the trees.
Wild felines raise their young
Not far from, the sleeping Lizard King
to see the kittens vanish behind a marker
Round here is a common thing.
Year 23
To view the views, and see the sights
It's like an ancient fairy tale
Cast in modern day living
Those living both heaven and hell
This severed garden will always be
Full of memories so vivid
For our minds to see
Some of us leave flowers
A cigarette or a card
Somedays it's not easy
Year 24
Sometimes its often hard
Giving up a rock and roll poet
In the height of his career
I bow my head in silence
And wipe away a tear
The good die young is very true
Living way too fast indeed
Your friends and family
Try to slow you down
But their warnings, they never heed

Year 25
What was it like, to break on thru
See a light, find life brand new?
To walk across to the other side
Can one find peace, does love abide?
Are there wings on your shoulders now,
Smooth as raven's claws?
Have you found meaning there?
And a beautiful cause
Have you written a book with Rimbaud, I wonder
As I look into the sky, and feel the rolling thunder.
Year 26
All the fancy carvings on these grounds
Statues secured in place
Flowers planted on the hills
The smiles on everyone's face
In forty years, a billion tears
Have fallen upon Jim's grave
But gladness seems to fill each heart
When they think of all he gave.
Jim was a good man
Some say he had a tormented soul
Year 27
A twentieth century Shaman
So the story's told
From his early days at UCLA
to his final day in France
those Jim came in contact with
He'd leave them in a trance
Swimming to the moon

Or climbing thru the tide
Forty years ago in this city
July third, our hero died
Year 28
Then there was Pam
Your beautiful cosmic mate
Always there for you
Sometimes she'd patiently wait
Within the shadows of the darkness
For your safe return
She loved you so much Jim, to her
You were always her greatest concern
With her long flowing hair
And a small petite frame
Year 29
The day her eyes met Jims
His lfe was never again the same
Their times were often trying
And love put to the test
But in the end, he always knew
That Pam was truly the best
Can't you see them now
Under the stars of france
As Jim takes Pam by the hand
And they began to dance

Year 30
Jim had visited this cemetery
A few weeks before he passed away
quiet walks along the stony lanes
He felt his closing days
Mr. Mojo knew he soon would leave
I'm sure he felt some fear
Can you remember those famous lines
The end is always near.
Performances made so long ago
James Douglas Morrison, we miss you so.
Year 31
You were buried secretly here
Under a hot summer sun
In the hazy, lazy month of July,
The year, 1971
For Pam and the doctors,
Perhaps the only ones who knew
What really happened there that night
When your young life was through
Did she plant roses
On the fresh broken ground?
Year32
A note, or picture
While no one made a sound.
Did she spend the night
There with her man
Jim always knew
Pam was his biggest fan.
After Jim left the earth
To get over him, she did try
As 1974 arrived
Pam Courson, too, had died
Year 33
So after that, they met again
Somewhere in the void
Have they lived together out in space
Or took a ride on an asteroid?
Do their spirits still roam the streets
The ones we walk down today
Or simply forever and ever gone
Never to cross our way
I believe when someone touches your life
They live forever in your heart
Year 34
Their life is never finished
For each day is a brand new start
While languages may differ
Or cultures not the same
We can all agree, we love the man
Once who had a little game
so today time stops
We miss you, Jim we do
If you're looking down from above
We remember you today, it's true

Year 35
This landmark is divine
With its corridors and moseliums
And all its structures and stained glasses
It's like an outdoor colisium
I watch birds fly over
And hear a loud bell ringing
As I stop walking and listen
I can hear the angels singing
For they hover over the bodies here
Then summon them up to roam
Year 36
They too are angelic spirits
Longing to go home
The poets corner is where we go
Each time that we stop by
There's always a fan hanging around
Some may just sit there and cry
The most visited grave, they say
Among every single soul resting there
There's one thing about it, my friend
No limit freedom is always in the air.
Year 37
Forty years you've been right here
In the place you chose yourself to be
As I hear the wind whistle
Above me, through the branches of a tree
The seasons come, and then they go
Summer's heat brings winter's cold
But one thing I do know
As long as folks hear your music
Or read the words that you had to say
You'll always have a visitor,
each and every day.
Year 38
In closing today Jim
We can say with a smile
It was worth the trip
Worth every single mile
All the places visited
The friends that we've made
Freedom felt here at Pere La Chaise
This feeling, we wouldn't trade
We bid you farewell, as we walk away
Knowing inside, it's been a good day
Year 39
We thank everyone
Who has come today
Inside each of us
We have so much to say
some of us maybe writers
On a sea, looking for a song
Others trying to figure out
Where in life, that they belong
Some people seem to find out, others never do
Jim chose music and poetry, then he followed it through.
